Basement construction

Basement Construction

The cost of land has resulted in a growth of the construction of basements. Conventionally constructed basements require a lot of site work often in difficult working conditions. By utilising precast to construct the basement walls and roof, the speed and quality of construction is drastically improved.

CCP can offer insulated precast basement units using the double wall construction method. A double wall panel is a precast concrete unit which is manufactured in out specialised factory to the highest of standards. It comprises of two concrete leaves (typically 60mm thick) with an insulated cavity. Each leaf is connected using non-metallic  low conductivity ties to ensure that the panels remain thermally efficient and there is no 'cold bridging' between the layers.

When on site, units are temporarily propped and connecting steel is used to join adjacent double walls or half floor units prior to concreting. Once the concrete has cured, a single monolithic element is created. This process is fast, avoids expensive formwork and provides an outstanding finish which can be very difficult to achieve on site.

Construction takes place in high quality factory conditions vastly reducing the amount of work undertaken on site. The cavity width and insulation thickness can be varied to suite the thermal insulation requirements (U Value) of the project. In basement construction, excellent waterproofing  is essential and the necessary waterstops and membranes can be incorporated into the design.
