A uniquely challenging project for a private house and client to provide a polished precast wall with treads cantilevering from it.
Additionally, both sides of the wall were to be seen with the second side having another polished staircase running by the side of it.
A large amount of consideration was given to the method of production for this bespoke project.
We cast the unit face down with the treads at the bottom of the shutter. The reverse side of the wall would then need to be “seeded” with additional aggregate to ensure an even distribution of stone on both sides of the wall.
Cast in light boxes and conduits were also included. The overall effect of the polished selected Cornish granite staircase is quite stunning.
